Obituary for Jacob Matthew Specht

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 5, 2017, at Resurrection Catholic Church in Eveleth. Celebrant will be Rev. Joel Hastings. Visitation one hour before the service, with recitation of the rosary at 10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Eveleth Cemetery. Military Honors will be accorded by Virginia Servicemen's Club Honor Guard.

Jacob Matthew Specht of Duluth, formerly of Eveleth, died peacefully with family by his side at Essentia Health-Virginia on Thursday, June 1, 2017.

He was born August 23, 1930 in Nashwauk, MN to Jacob and Mary (Wirtz) Specht. Jacob was united in marriage to Marie L. Krall on May 14, 1960. He served in the Korean War where he earned a Bronze Star. He worked for 30 years at LTV as a locomotive mechanic and air break specialist. He loved spending time outdoors; hunting, fishing and gardening. It was very hard to get him away from a good berry patch. He was a long time member of Resurrection Church in Eveleth and also a member of St. Benedict’s in Duluth.

He is survived by his sons, Tom (Dayle) Specht of Sugar Land, Texas, John (Debbie) Specht of Duluth and George Specht of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, Sara, Matthew, Alexandra, Peter and Nathan; brother, Richard (Rose) Specht; sister, Patricia (Harland) Fluesman and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marie; his parents and many brothers and sisters.
