Obituary for Marianne Tomljanovich Noble

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 21, 2018 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Celebrant will be Fr. Eamonn Boland. Visitation will be one hour before at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Lakewood Cemetery, Crosby, Mn. Prefer memorials to Mary Knoll in lieu of gifts.

Marianne Tomljanovich Noble, 89, of Eveleth, MN passed away Saturday September 15, 2018 at The Willows of Arbor Lakes in Maple Grove, MN under the care of Grace Hospice.

She was born December 4, 1928 in Crosby-Ironton, MN to Blaz and Anka Tomljanovich where she was raised and graduated from high school in 1946.

In 1950, Marianne graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English from the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, MN. At St. Louis University she received her master’s degree in English a minor in German and was employed at SLU as an English professor while continuing her doctorate work.

She enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and achieved the rank of Lieutenant Commander during the Korean War.

She married her forever love Duane H. Noble on October 6, 1962. They started their family in Ely, MN and later moved to Eveleth when Duane was promoted to Chief Mining Engineer at Eveleth Taconite in 1971.

Marianne was strong, fiercely independent, generous and devoted in her Catholic faith. She volunteered much of her time and talent to the Eveleth Resurrection Catholic Church. She was an exuberant choir member, taught confirmation, lead rosary circles, was the church decorator, and served for many years as the funeral kitchen volunteer coordinator. She was also a dedicated member of the church prayer chain. She delivered meals on wheels for many years.

Marianne donated annually to numerous charities extending her spirit of love and service.
She enjoyed traveling, reading, crossword puzzles, gourmet meal groups with the “ladies” and watching Jeopardy. Not many dared to call her during game time. She blessed all who knew her with her beautiful smile, her quick wit, and her gracious spirit. She will be profoundly missed.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Duane. She has been without him for 27 years.

She is survived by her brother William (Esther) Tomljanovich and her sister Olga Diachuk: 2 nephews, 1 niece. 3 daughters, 1 son and 10 grandchildren: Anne (Mark) Phinney – Emily, Caitlin, Michaela of Hermantown, MN; Amy (Fritz) Kvaternik – Hannah, Alia, Abbey, Aubrey of Maple Grove, MN; Daniel (Evangeline) Noble – Anna of Cottage Grove, MN; Petra (Scott) Noble-Schueller – Blaise, Elly of Minneapolis, MN.
