Obituary for Donald Edwin Peterson

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the Gilbert VFW from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. Burial in Gilbert Cemetery will be at a later date.

Donald E. Peterson, 85, of Eveleth died Sunday, September 16, 2018, with grandson, Jeremy at his side, at St. Raphael’s Health & Rehabilitation Center in Eveleth, while under hospice care.

He was born on July 20, 1933 in Gilbert to Edwin and Effie (Dormanen) Peterson. He grew up in Sparta and rural Eveleth and attended Cotton High School. He was stationed in Germany while in the U.S. Army.

Donnie was united in marriage to Marian Thronson and they had 58 years together, living in Eveleth, California and rural Eveleth. They looked after and assisted with Jeremy.

Donnie was a member of the Teamsters Union and was a truck driver in the construction industry. He enjoyed tending to his yard and watching almost any sport, especially the MN Twins. He was well known for his quick wit, great sense of humor and his soft heart. He was kind, patient and a true gentleman. He had a great attitude and always made the best of any situation.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Marian; daughter, Cheryl; son, Michael; parents; brothers, Verne (Bev), Ray and James; sisters, Lorraine (Dan) Shields, Shirley (Jim) Kivela, Joni Hanson, Donna Juvrud and Cindy Peterson.

He is survived by grandchildren, Jeremy, Donald, Daniel and Tiffany; 3 great-grandchildren; brothers, William, Allan (Audrey) and Duane; sisters, Ethel (Jim Saugestad) and Bonnie (Dan) Mason; three brothers-in-law; many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and Marian’s extended family.
