Obituary for Nicholas H. Pollack

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 2, 2017 at Resurrection Catholic Church, Eveleth. Celebrant will be Fr. Michael Garry. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church. Casket bearers will be Michael Pollack, Tony Pollack, Jim Pollack, Jack Pollack, Joe Pollack and Charles Koski. Interment will be in Eveleth Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Solvay Hospice House c/o Miller-Dwan Foundation, 520 East Second Street, Duluth, MN 55805.

Nicholas H. Pollack, 85, of Eveleth, died Friday, February 24, 2017 at Solvay Hospice House in Duluth surrounded by his family. A lifelong resident, he was born on December 3, 1931 to Steve and Catherine (Zalice) Pollack. Nick graduated from Eveleth High School and Eveleth Junior College. He worked as a plumber for Tini Mechanical in Virginia for over 45 years and belonged to Local 589. Nick was united in marriage to Ione I. Koski on May 1, 1954 in Eveleth. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church, where he ushered for many years and Knights of Columbus Frank A. Mancina Council #2583., where he participated in making Holy Donuts. Nick enjoyed woodworking, playing cards, dancing and going to the casino with his wife, Ione. He was helpful to family and many friends. He especially enjoyed time spent with his grandchildren and family, never missing a family function.

He is survived by his wife, Ione; children, Michael (Sue) of Eden Prairie, Minn., Tony (Barb) of Ironwood, Michigan, Denise Pollack (Mike Martin) of Key West, Florida; grandchildren, Bridget (David) Nabor, Wendy Jones, Jill (Jon) Niksich, Joanna (Mike) Dagenais, Angelina Young; great-grandchildren, Liam, Amelia, Ava, Claire, Josie; brothers, Jack (Anna) of Eveleth, Joseph (Rozanne) of St. Louis Park, James (Donna) of Eveleth; sister, Kathleen Kloiber of Coon Rapids; Ione’s family, Violet, Charlie, Sharon, Shirley and families and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, brothers and brothers-in-law, Matilda and Emil Pokorny, Tom Pollack, Steve and Doris Pollack, Mary Jane and Joe Jagunich, Howard Randall and Robert Kloiber.
