Obituary for Betsy Grace Skerjance

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 9, 2017 at Peace United Methodist Church, Virginia. Pastor Mickey Olson will officiate. Visitation will begin at 12:30 p.m. at the church. Private family burial will be in Eveleth Cemetery.

Betsy G. Skerjance, 91, of Eveleth, died Sunday, December 3, 2017 at Essentia Health-Virginia. She was born on June 8, 1926 in Eveleth to LeRoy and Nellie C. (Lundquist) Rodda Sr. Betsy graduated from Eveleth High School and Eveleth Junior College. She was united in marriage to Joseph M. Skerjance on December 1, 1951. Along with her husband, Betsy owned and operated S&S Olds Cadillac and S&S Service Garage. She also had worked at Cluett-Peabody Shirt Factory in Eveleth. Betsy enjoyed spending time with family and friends, including her church family. Her hobbies were knitting, reading, picking blueberries, watching baseball/hockey and flower gardening. She treasured her time at her parents’ Deer Horn Lodge on Lake Kabetogama, where she grew to love animals and nature. She passed this love onto her children and grandchildren. Betsy was a member of Peace United Methodist Church, Auxiliary to Mesaba Range Post 1172 VFW of Eveleth and a former member of the Auxiliary to the Moose Lodge.

She is survived by her children; Gary (Kate) Skerjance of Eveleth, Sharon Legg of Coon Rapids, Mn, Mark (Dora) Skerjance, Linda (Brian) Kohlhase and Kathy (Erik) Jankila all of Eveleth; grandchildren; Nick (Erin) Legg, Sam Legg, Corey (Lisa) Skerjance, Anton (fiancé, Tessa) Skerjance, Grant (Briana) Kohlhase, Derek Kohlhase, Maddi Jankila, Elli Jankila; step-grandchildren; Ben Helgeson, Rebecca Helgeson, Bob (Kristie) Helgeson; great-grandchildren; Ada, Victor, Hadley; step-great-grandchildren; Sullivan, Kristin, Mylee and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, LeRoy and Nellie Rodda Sr.; husband, Joseph; brothers, Bobby and Junior Rodda and step-granddaughter, Barbara Helgeson.
