He was born on May 13, 1923 in Eveleth to Matt and Johanna (Grad) Zadnikar. On January 6, 1945, Tony married the love of his life, Marjorie Vlaisavljevich, in Eveleth. Tony retired from US Steel in 1977 after having worked as a service truck andboom truck driver for thirty years. Following Margie’s death he married Evelyn Ness in 1978.

Tony was a past member of the Eveleth Fire Commission, Planning and Zoning Commission, and Eveleth-Virginia Airport Commission, as well as a lifetime member of the Eveleth Elks. Tony and his wife Margie built three of their homes and a cabin, and they also owned and operated Ray’s Cabins on Lake Vermillion. Tony was one of the original builders/owners of The Rustic Rock Inn in Eveleth. Well known for his ice sculptures, driving by Tony’s House was a local Christmas tradition for families for over 50 years. Late in life he became known as the “King of Bingo” at St. Raphael’s, where he collected winnings to give to his great-granddaughter, Bristol.

He is survived by his daughter, Cindy (Lyle) Gulbranson of Eveleth, and family; Allison MacLeod (Derek Reque), Minneapolis; Luke Gulbranson (Dinushi Perera), Manhattan, NY; and Brooke (Jake) Bernard, Eveleth; ; special great-granddaughter, Bristol Bernard and baby Bernard due in September; his son, Larry and family; Larry, Amy and Brian; several great-grandchildren and sister, Julia (Paul) Sersha and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Marjorie; his second wife, Evelyn Horvat Ness; parents; sisters Olga Bass, Anne Adams, and Mary Nasstrom; and his daughter-in-law, Eleanor.

Special thank you to Dr. Harold Johnston for all of the wonderful care that he gave to Tony.
